Will my insurance cover the treatments?

Michael Koziol and Sophia Bouwens are in-network with United Healthcare, Optum, and the Veterans Community Care Program. Within UHC, health plans vary, and not all plans cover acupuncture. Prior to booking an appointment, please call our office and provide your name, date of birth, and insurance ID and group number so that we can verify your acupuncture benefits.

If you have a health insurance company not listed above, we can provide you with a superbill you can submit to your insurance company to seek reimbursement. You will be required to pay up front for the services, as we do not bill insurance companies as out-of-network providers.

Our providers all accept and bill for motor vehicle accident claims and some workers compensation claims. A written referral from a medical doctor is required before starting care.

We do not accept any other types of insurance at this time.

Do you accept HSA or FSA cards?

Yes, we accept Health Savings Account (HSA) and Flexible Spending Account (FSA) cards as payment for our services. Acupuncture and functional neurology treatments are typically eligible expenses under these accounts.

What can I expect on my first visit?

At your first visit we will take the time to get to know you and the conditions you want help with. We will perform a functional neurological exam, orthopedic assessments, and based on our findings, create an individualized treatment plan to help you find the relief you are seeking. First visits are typically longer than follow-up appointments to allow for thorough assessment.

What should I wear to my appointment?

Please wear loose and comfortable clothing. This allows us to access acupuncture points and perform neurological assessments without restriction. Avoid tight jeans or restrictive clothing if possible.

Initial consultations typically last 60-90 minutes to allow for a thorough neurological assessment and first treatment. Follow-up visits are generally 45-60 minutes. We pride ourselves on spending real time with our patients — we don't rush appointments.

However, if you are seeking treatment through a motor vehicle accident claim or workers compensation, a written referral from a medical doctor is required before starting care. If you have insurance through the Veterans Community Care Program, you will need a referral from the VA.

It includes comprehensive neurological assessment on Day 1, followed by four days of intensive, personalized treatment combining acupuncture, functional neurology rehabilitation, PEMF therapy, and photobiomodulation. The program costs $3,495 and is designed for patients ready to go beyond single weekly sessions.

Stillwater is located about 25 minutes east of Minneapolis/St. Paul and offers charming accommodations along the St. Croix River. Many patients combine their treatment week with exploring the area — hence the name 'Neurocaytion' (neuro + vacation). We're happy to provide lodging recommendations.

We are located at 1970 Northwestern Ave. S. Suite 100, Stillwater, MN 55082. Stillwater is in the east metro of the Twin Cities, about 25 minutes from downtown Minneapolis or St. Paul. We serve patients from across the greater Twin Cities metro area, western Wisconsin (Hudson, Somerset, River Falls, New Richmond), and patients who travel from across the country for our specialized care.

Do you offer telehealth or virtual consultations?

We offer free 15-minute virtual consultations for prospective patients who want to discuss their condition before scheduling an in-person visit. For established patients, some follow-up consultations and home exercise program reviews can be conducted via video. However, our neurological assessments and treatments require in-person visits.
